Strengthening ethics in government
★ Chief lobbyist on successful multi-year campaign to pass landmark campaign finance reform legislation, the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act.
★ Leader of effort to create the Office of Congressional Ethics for the US House of Representatives. Created and currently leads the Ethics Working Group, bringing together advocates from across the political spectrum to push for strengthened ethics rules for Congress.
★ Successfully lobbied Congress to strengthen rules restricting gifts and lobbying in the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act.
★ Created and led the Public Interest Airwaves Coalition which acts as a watchdog to protect the public interest on television and radio. The coalition successfully pushed the Federal Communications Commission to require television stations to disclose online information about who is buying political advertising and what they are paying.
Delivering nutrition for low-income children & mothers
★ Led successful effort to require the US Department of Agriculture to update the food packages for the first time in 20 years for low-income pregnant women, infants, and children who participate in the WIC program.
★ Spearheaded a campaign that prevented price-gouging in the WIC program, defeating well-funded and well-connected special interests that hired both Republican and Democratic K Street lobbying firms.
Fighting the AIDS epidemic
★ Devised a lobbying strategy that resulted in a 300% increase in US government funding for the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative, a non-profit organization at the forefront of efforts to end the global AIDS epidemic.
